The People of Distinction shall be selected biannually in each even-numbered year. Two honorary awards will be given in each award year to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of education, teaching, and management services on the international campus and to inspire the faculty and staff to engage actively in education and management services. These awards are, respectively, the Scholar of Distinction award and the Staff of Distinction award.

 

I. Selection Quotas and Scope

1.Number of Nominees. One Scholar of Distinction and one Staff of Distinction award will be given in each award year. If there are no suitable candidates for an award in any award year, the award may be left vacant.

2.Eligibility. Eligible nominees include faculty members who have worked full-time in the International Campus for at least 3 years, as well as part-time teachers from partner universities and relevant departments of Zhejiang University who have taught more than 32 hours (inclusive) per year in the International Campus in the recent three years. Current leaders of the International Campus and heads of the institutes and schools are not eligible for selection. Winners are not eligible to participate in selection for the same award within five years. Faculty and staff who have previously been nominated but who did not win are eligible to participate in the selection in subsequent years.

 

II. Selection Criteria

1. Criteria for the Scholar of Distinction

Nominees will:(a) Actively devote themselves to the cause of education and regard student development as their duty; (b) Be highly virtuous, dedicated, rigorous, and exemplary teachers, with strong ideals, morals, solid knowledge, compassion, and international vision; (c) Be teachers who care about the growth of students, devote themselves to talent development, promote the all-round development of students, and are generally recognized by teachers and students as teachers of both virtue and talent;(d) Make sustained, innovative, and outstanding contributions in teaching and teaching reform.

2. Criteria for the Staff of Distinction

Nominees will:(a) Respect teachers and love students, firmly adhere to the concepts of management and service, serve teachers and students wholeheartedly, be enthusiastic, considerate, patient, and sincere, and be generally recognized by teachers and students;

(b) Demonstrate skills in continuously improving their daily work and making innovative and excellent contributions to the institutional construction, cultural construction, and connotative development of the school district; (c) Show strong professional ability in combining the characteristics of management and service, continuous learning, improvement in the quality of management and service, and making significant achievements in their own work; (d) Demonstrate cross-cultural vision, global awareness, and teamwork spirit.

 

III. Selection Procedures

The selection process consists of the following five stages:

1.Initiation and recommendation of candidates. At the beginning of the fourth quarter of each award year, the International Campus will launch the biannual selection process. A preliminary list of nominees shall be compiled from recommendations. The four unitsZJE, ZJUI, ZIBS, and the administration officesmay each recommend two preliminary nominees: one for Scholar of Distinction and one for Staff of Distinction. Each unit shall fully solicit the opinions of the Executive Committee of the Teaching Congress, the trade unions, the student unions, the Youth League Committees, and other mass organizations, as well as a majority of the teachers, students, and employees in their unit, and, through certain procedures and comprehensive consideration of the opinions of all parties, propose two suitable nominees.

2.Online voting by teachers, students, and alumni. The working group shall publish the list of nominees and the reasons for their recommendation, widely publicize the nominees’ conduct on campus, and make arrangements for online voting by faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The Scholar of Distinction is voted for by faculty, staff, students, and alumni, and the Staff of Distinction is voted on by faculty, staff, and students. The results of the ballot will be submitted to the selection committee for reference in making their final decisions.

3.Deliberations of the Selection Committee. Based on the submitted materials and the results of the ballot, the selection committee will recommend one nominee for each of the two awards and publish their names for real-name voting. The final nominees shall be the candidates who obtained the highest number of affirmative votes and who obtained at least half of all affirmative votes. If no candidate meets these criteria, the award will be left vacant for the current award year.

4.Approval by the Party Committee. The selection committee will submit the names of the winners of the ballot to the Party Committee of the campus for consideration, and the Party Committee will issue a document after approval.

5.Commendations and awards. The International Campus will recognize the winners and publish their names. An award of 20,000 yuan (before tax) will be given to each winner, and the individuals who were nominated but who did not win the award will each receive a certificate of honor. The International Campus will publicize and demonstrate the exemplary conduct of the winners in various ways.

 

VI Selection Organizations

1. Selection Committee. The International Campus shall establish a Selection Committee, which shall be responsible for the overall organization and implementation of the selection process. All units should coordinate and cooperate, and at the same time actively mobilize the members of the Executive Committee of the Teaching Congress, trade unions, student unions, Youth League Committees, and other mass organizations to generally participate in the selection process. The selection committee shall be composed of two chairpersons, two vice chairpersons, and several members. The chairpersons and vice chairpersons are filled by the key leadership of the International Campus and the Campus Party Organization. The committee members shall consist of representatives of faculty (including Chinese and foreign faculty and representatives of high-level talents), student representatives (including undergraduate, graduate, and international students), staff representatives, alumni representatives, and the directors of the institutes/schools and administrative offices (including the Office of General Administration, the Office of Human Resources, the Office of Academic Affairs, and the Office of Student Affairs).

2. Selection Working Group. The selection committee shall set up a working group, which shall be led by the Office of Human Resources, composed of relevant personnel from the Office of General Administration, the Office of Human Resources, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Student Affairs, and the trade unions. The working group shall be specifically responsible for the organization, implementation, and publicity of the selection process.
