After two days of orientation activities, September 13 marked the first ever school day of the International Campus. At 8 a.m., the first classes of the International Campus—five English classes—began. The International Campus has brought in the teaching faculty, degree programs, curriculum, teaching resources, quality standard and quality control mechanisms from their cooperative institutions, and all the courses are given in English. To improve teaching quality and students’ learning, a two-week intensive English course is provided for the freshmen.
The intensive English course is taught by foreign teachers in small classes, with 10 to 11 students in each class. Two of the teachers come from UIUC’s Center for Writing Studies, and the other three are language teachers employed in accordance with the top international recruitment standards.
