In this talk we will identify and describe the key challenges facing higher education including access and preparing students to contribute to the knowledge economy and become informed global citizens. We will explore two avenues to address these challenges (1) How inter-disciplinary research and the science of learning can improve pedagogical methods aimed at preparing students to become self directed, life long learners (2) How we can develop and leverage technology to meet these challenges. We will conclude by discussing the role of education start ups in disrupting the current higher education landscape.
