The Zhejiang University - Haining Municipal Government Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Committee Meeting was Held

The Zhejiang University-Haining Municipal Government Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Committee Meeting was held on the International Campus on November 29. At the meeting, the two sides summarized progress over the last year, planned and reached consensus on the next phase of cooperation, and clarified the main tasks ahead. The meeting noted that the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership had moved into the next stage of development. Leaders of Zhejiang University and Haining Municipal Government, and relevant departments, attended the meeting. All attendees toured and inspected the International Research Center for Advanced Photonics and the International Research Center for Functional Polymers buildings, the construction of which began a year ago and has just been completed. Professor HE Lianzhen, Vice President of Zhejiang University, and Dean of the International Campus, chaired the meeting.

Professor WU Zhaohui, President of Zhejiang University and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Mr ZHU Jianjun, Secretary of the Haining Municipal Party Committee, announced the establishment of the “Dawei Di” in Haining. Professor HUANG Xianhai, Vice President of Zhejiang University and Mr YAO Minzhong, Head of the Standing Committee of Haining People’s Congress announced the establishment of the Yangtze River Delta International Graduate School, Zhejiang University.

Prof. WU Zhaohui expressed his gratitude to Haining Municipal Government for their continuous support of Zhejiang University, and congratulated both sides of the partnership on their achievements. He pointed out that, across the world, mutually beneficial cooperation between prestigious colleges and cities has become an important driving force for regional innovation and development, and Haining and Zhejiang University are playing a leading role. Since the two sides established a formal cooperative relationship in 2013, he said, we have explored the new Sino-foreign cooperation model, constructed a talent cultivation system in line with international standards, and contributed to national and regional strategic needs. Prof. WU also hoped that, at this new historical starting point, the two sides should further deepen strategic mutual trust, develop innovative cooperation mechanisms, build an International Campus where “globalization” and “regionalization” are intertwined, and develop a model of University-City cooperation compatible with the new development paradigm. He called for efforts to enhance the quality and efficiency of Sino-foreign cooperation, address the urgent industrial needs of Haining, and serve the national strategy to actively participate in the integrated high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta.

ZHU Jianjun made very positive comments about the great results achieved through the cooperation partnership in terms of strategy, scientific research, Campus operation, talents, exchanges, and medical support. He said that, while ZJU had changed Haining, Haining had also given ZJU new meaning. For Haining, the International Campus had been an important engine of scientific research and innovation, a key platform for talent introduction and cultivation, as well as becoming well-known city landmark. He hoped that, based on what had already achieved, the two sides would strive for policy support, build an interactive mechanism, promote scientific research transformation, and share high-quality resources.

At the meeting, Zhejiang University and Haining Municipal Government signed a memorandum of agreement on fund use and management. The International Campus signed agreements with the College of Electrical Engineering and the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture respectively, to jointly establish the International Research Center for Advanced Electrical Engineering and the International Research Center for Green Building and Low-Carbon City. An agreement in support of the “Dawei Di”, based on the International Campus, was signed by Haining Municipal Government and Professor DI Dawei. Five special working groups, including the development strategy group, scientific research cooperation group, talent cooperation group, medical cooperation group, and Campus co-construction group, delivered work reports.
