On August 28 and 29, the Mid-Year Meeting of the International Campus was held to discuss the formulation of the “14th Five-year Plan” and the further development of the international education cooperation model. Professor He Lianzhen, Vice President of Zhejiang University and Dean of the International Campus, gave a report on the formulation of the Campus’ “14th Five-year Plan”. Professor Fu Qiang, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, Minister of the Organization Department, Zhejiang University, Secretary of the Party Working Committee, and Vice Dean of the International Campus, chaired the meeting.
Professor He conveyed the key points of ZJU’s Mid-Year Meeting, and gave a report on the proposed development of the International Campus in the “14th Five-year Plan” period, with an elaboration of tasks and initiatives. She pointed out that the International Campus should focus on ZJU’s strategic orientation (to be preeminent, excellent, admirable, and keen (PEAK)), contribute to the Yangtze River Delta’s regional integration initiative, further develop the model of international education cooperation, and share our international education experience. The Campus should strive to produce high-quality talents, promote cooperative development with local regions, and strengthen international exchanges, etc., to build a model and platform for global learning.
Professor Fu gave a report on how to further clarify the development goals and strategies. He pointed out that we should fully appreciate the opportunities and challenges we will face during the “14th Five-year Plan” period. Furthermore, we should aim to improve the model of international education cooperation so that it develops into being an indispensable part of Zhejiang University, the city of Haining, as well as the country. Professor Fu expressed the view that the development of the International Campus should focus on both external expansion and internal enhancement, and its accumulated advantages should be transformed into core competitiveness in a timely manner.
At the meeting, Prof. Ouyang Hongwei, Vice Dean of the International Campus and Dean of ZJU-UoE Institute, Prof. Li Er-ping, Dean of ZJU-UIUC Institute, and Qu Haidong, Vice Dean of the International Business School, ZJU, reported on the “14th Five-year Plan” of each Institute respectively. Zhuge Yang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the International Campus gave a thematic report on faculty and staff development in the Plan period; Prof. Wang Yufen, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Office of Students Affairs gave a thematic report on talents cultivation in the Plan period; Qu Lijuan, Assistant Dean and Director of the Office of Campus Development and Management gave a thematic report on Campus resource optimization and support in the Plan period. Other attendees discussed these reports.
The summary meeting was held on the afternoon of 29 August. Professor He put forward requirements on how to revise the “14th Five-year Plan” and set out the main tasks for the next stage. First of all, we should be more mindful of the connections among the Campus, ZJU and the Institutes in the formulation of the Plan, especially regarding the integration of disciplines. Moreover, we should strengthen the talent recruitment system, find new ways to expand our cooperation with global partners, and adhere to the highest standards in the development of the Joint Innovation Center. She pointed out that we should put more focus on improving interdisciplinary research and the Campus’ reputation. We also need to accelerate the attainment of landmark achievements and contribute significantly to Zhejiang University’s Double First-class initiative.
Other attendees of the Mid-Year Meeting included all key administrators of the Campus and those in charge of each office, department and Institute.
