Four years ago, in 2016, the International Campus started to enroll students. This year saw the graduation of the first batch of the students . From the end of May to June, the first class of undergraduates from Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute, ZJU (ZJE) and Zhejiang University-University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Institute, ZJU (ZJUI) graduated successfully and received degrees from two universities, Zhejiang University and the University of Edinburgh or the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
On the morning of May 30, the Commencement for the Class of 2020, ZJUI, was held in the Multifunctional Hall. Prof. WU Zhaohui, the President of Zhejiang University, attended the Commencement in person and Prof. Robert J. Jones, Chancellor of UIUC, attended online. They expressed their congratulations to the first class of graduating students. Prof. HE Lianzhen, Vice President of ZJU and Dean of the International Campus, ZJU, Prof. FU Qiang, Assistant President of ZJU, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the International Campus, ZJU, Vice Dean of the International Campus, ZJU, awarded their degrees to ZJUI graduates. The guests here on Campus and in the United States witnessed the Commencement of the Class of 2020 through live video.
The ZJE Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony was held on the evening of June 26. Prof. WU Zhaohui, the President of Zhejiang University, and Prof. Peter Mathieson, the Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, expressed their hopes and expectations to the graduates through videos. Prof. SONG Yonghua, the first Dean of the International Campus, Prof. ZHONG Nanshan, an alumnus of UoE, and other faculty members also expressed their best wishes through videos. 17 graduates gave a performance to express their gratitude to the faculty and staff, including the cleaners, cooks, and security guards.
It was reported that among the 45 graduates of the two Institutes, 44 of them chose to further their studies and one chose to engage in scientific research.
