Andy To, on behalf of the US Green Building Council, congratulated Zhejiang University on winning the award, saying: “Promoting the concept of green buildings in universities is the most important part of promoting the green buildings concept worldwide”. Students who grow up in an environmentally friendly and sustainable campus will bring these concepts to their various fields when they enter society in the future. In this respect, Zhejiang University is leading the world in the field of education.

Wang Youwei said more than 1 billion square meters of buildings in China have received green building design certification, but fewer than 5 per cent of them have received final operation and maintenance certification. The International Campus, Zhejiang University, was awarded the platinum certification of LEED v4.1 operation and maintenance, which is not only a full recognition of the university’s concern for the whole-life cycle of green campus construction and management, but also a recognition of the internationalization of the operation and management of Chinese university campuses. It is a significant milestone in the progress of Chinese university green campus construction.
