On the afternoon of 27 August, Zhejiang University–Haining Municipal Government Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Committee meeting was held in Haining, marking the next stage of comprehensive strategic cooperation. At the meeting, the two sides summarized progress to date and clarified the direction of further development – focusing on the development strategies following the Yangtze River Delta Integration Development Plan, aiming at developing the International Campus into a model of international education cooperation. Leaders of Zhejiang University, Jiaxing and Haining Municipal Government, and relevant departments attended the meeting. Professor He Lianzhen, Vice President of Zhejiang University and Dean of International Campus, chaired the meeting.
Professor Ren Shaobo, Chairman of Zhejiang University Council, Professor Wu Zhaohui, President of Zhejiang University, Mr Zhang Bing, Secretary of the Jiaxing Municipal Party Committee, and Mr Zhu Jianjun, Secretary of the Haining Municipal Party Committee, delivered keynote speeches. They all made very positive comments about the great achievements made at the International Campus over the past three years and they expressed the view that both sides should work together, making full use of the advantage of the region to facilitate faster growth of the International Campus.
Professor Ren expressed his gratitude to Jiaxing and Haining for their continuous support of Zhejiang University. He emphasized that Zhejiang University and Haining should together focus on the cultivation of talent, build a global platform, and explore new teaching models. Jiaxing should become the incubator for innovation and enterprise, and make a greater contribution to our country and society.
Professor Wu stated that the two sides should increase cooperative activities based on the new strategic cooperation vision. He also pointed out that this is a great strategic opportunity for both sides to promote a new kind of cooperation among government, industry, university and research, with the International Campus at its core.
Mr Zhang expressed his gratitude to Zhejiang University and said that Zhejiang University and Jiaxing had always had a productive partnership. The International Campus, as one of the symbols of this cooperative partnership, has been for Jiaxing an essential scientific innovation platform.
Zhu Jianjun said that the International Campus had been the major source of scientific and technological innovation in Haining, as well as the primary platform for talent cultivation. It has also been playing an important role in improving Haining people’s livelihoods.
Professor Wu Zhaohui and Mr Cao Guoliang, Deputy Secretary of the Haining Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Haining Municipal Government, announced the establishment of the International Joint Innovation Center of Zhejiang University.
Since the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Agreement between ZJU and Haining Municipal Government in December 2016, focusing on the development of the International Campus, the two sides have launched a number of joint programs, created a cooperation mechanism, set up several key projects, and made much progress. The establishment of the International Joint Innovation Center will help to promote international collaboration in research and technology transfer in accordance with the Innovation-driven Development Strategy of Zhejiang Province and the “Double First-class” initiative of Zhejiang University.
At the meeting, the International Campus signed agreements with four labs that will join the International Joint Innovation Center. Zhejiang University Holding Group, the International Campus of Zhejiang University, and Juanhu Lake (International) Science & Technology Park signed a cooperation agreement to co-establish the technology transfer fund. The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University signed a cooperation agreement with Haining Municipal Government. The development strategy group, the scientific research group, the talents cooperation group, the medical cooperation group, and the campus development group briefed on the progress respectively. Professor Luo Weidong and Professor Yan Jianhua, both Vice President of Zhejiang University, Professor Fu Qiang, Assistant President of Zhejiang University, Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Vice Dean of the International Campus, Mr Xing Haihua, Vice Mayor of Haining, and Mr Ao Kaoquan, Vice Chairman of Jiaxing Political Consultative Conference and Secretary-general of the Jiaxing Municipal Party Committee, also attended the meeting.
