On November 25th, Professor Wu Zhaohui, President of Zhejiang University, led a delegation to visit International Campus, accompanied by Professor Song Yonghua, Executive Vice President of ZJU and Dean of International Campus, Professor He Lianzhen, Executive Vice Dean of International Campus, and Professor Fu Qiang, Assistant President of ZJU, Secretary of Party Working Committee, and Vice Dean of International Campus, ZJU.
After having lunch with students at the dining hall, President Wu greeted both Chinese and foreign teachers and students at the Faculty and Staff Apartments and Residential College. A meeting was then held between President Wu and representatives of faculty and staff at the International Campus.
Centering around ZJU’s “Double First-rate" strategic initiative, Presidents Wu discussed with faculty representatives from ZJU-Edinburgh and ZJU-UIUC joint institutes and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on the long-term development plan of International Campus. He stressed that significant achievements have been made and a sound and healthy development momentum and pattern have been sustained since the official establishment of the Campus, showing full confidence and perspective towards the future of International Campus. Wu pointed out that, in keeping with the global development trend in higher education, the Campus should devote continued efforts towards fulfilling the fundamental task of whole person education and building an innovative pedagogy that combines the best practice of the east and west, positioning itself as a forerunner among institutions of higher education in China. He added that, International Campus plays a key role in the realization of Zhejiang University’s “Double First-rate” goals; therefore, efforts must be made to enhance its disciplinary strength by drawing on the strengths of world-class universities and the leading disciplines of the main campus. President Wu concluded that the Campus should continue to deepen its cooperation with world prestigious universities with the aim to attract high-quality educational resources. In addition, an international platform for scientific and technological research needs to be built to further exert its global influence and to promote the comprehensive development of International Campus.
Ten faculty representatives, including Associate Professor Ahmed Al-Hashash from ZJE, Assistant Professor Hu Huan from ZJUI, as well as senior administrators of the Campus and heads of relevant Campus departments attended the meeting.
