On April 22nd and 23 rd, the Symposium on Overseas Chinese Studies, co-organized by School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London and Institute of China Studies, Zhejiang University, was held at the Multi-purpose Hall, Residential College at International Campus. Fifteen experts and scholars from six Chinese and Foreign universities, including Zhejiang University, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)-University of London, the National University of Singapore, and Qingdao University, etc., attended the symposium.
Topics on Overseas Immigrants, Cultural Memory, and Identity were presented and discussed at the symposium. In addition, the recent status of Institute of China Studies, an overview of International Campus, and the internationalization strategy of ZJU were reported to encourage further cooperation with partner universities.
Professor K.C. Ting, Vice Dean of International Campus, ZJU, Professor Fan Jieping, Director of Institute of China Studies, ZJU, and Professor Liu Jieyu, Deputy Director of China Institute of SOAS, University of London attended the opening ceremony. Professor Wang Gengwu, Director of East Asia Institute, National University of Singapore, Professor Fan Jieping, and Professor Li Yuan, Vice Dean of School of International Studies, ZJU delivered speeches on Ensuring Chinese Identities in History, Hu’s Home Letters and Cultural Identity, and Transnational Citizenship - The Living State of New Chinese Immigrants from Zhejiang Province in Germany, respectively.
Professor Fan Jieping also briefed, at the symposium, on the phased achievements of the immigration research project of Institute of Chinese Studies - the first volume of China Studies Series.
