On the afternoon of January 20th, 2017, Professor Philip Krein, Executive Dean of ZJU-UIUC Institute (ZJUI), a member of the US National Academy of Engineeringwas invited to attend the Spring Festival Discussion Panel with Foreign Experts in Beijing, and was received by Premier Li Keqiang.

Premier Li Keqiang, on behalf of the Chinese Government, sent regards and Spring Festival greetings to Philip Krein and all other foreign experts and the international friends working in China and supporting China’s modernization. Premier Li listened attentively to participants’ speaking, and had in-depth exchanges with the experts on some key issues. He emphasized that China welcomes talents from all over the world to pursue innovation and entrepreneurship in China, and to participate in China’s modernization undertaking. He noted that China will give more support to foreign experts in entry and residence, project application, research resources and IPR protection so as to combine and leverage the Chinese and foreign wisdom and give full expression to the value of knowledge and creation, to better promote the common development and progress between China and other countries in the world.

Foreign experts symposium is underway
On the morning of the same day, Professor Philip Krein spoke at the meeting, which aimed to solicit suggestions from foreign experts. He briefed the audience on the achievements of the partnership between ZJU and UIUC, sharing the ZJUI experience, and presented views and suggestions on Sino-US cultural exchanges, cooperation in educating engineering talents, new energy development and application, China’s environmental governance and other relevant issues. Professor Krein’s remarks were highly recognized by the participants. Zhang Jianguo, Director of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, delivered a speech and thanked the foreign experts for their suggestions on the development of China and even the whole world.
