On the evening of November 22nd, the fifth "Feast of Strings" Violin Art Night Concert was held at the International Campus, attracting nearly 600 students, faculty members and Haining locals to immerse themselves in a spectacular musical performance. The concert was presented by the Wenqin Symphony Orchestra Troupe and the Graduate Art Troupe of Zhejiang University, featuring renowned domestic and international violinists and pianists.
The program showcased a diverse selection of pieces, blending Western violin solos, duets, and orchestral works with Chinese folk music, providing a unique fusion of classical and contemporary styles.
The concert opened with the String Ensemble: Mozart: Serenade No. 13 in G Major, K.525, 1st Movement, performed jointly by Wenqin Symphony Orchestra and Graduate Art Troupe. This was followed by the Ensemble: Rieding Concerto in B Minor, 1st Movement was performed by Violin Art Class of Senior Citizens’ College. Despite being in their sixties, these performers captivated the audience with their passion for music, technical skill, and stage presence.
Solo: Meditation was performed by CHEN Minzuo and LIU Ruimeng, two freshmen undergraduates from 2024 Cohort, International Campus. Duet: Dmitri Shostakovich: Pieces for Two Violins was performed by members of Wenqin Symphony Orchestra Troupe, showcased the performers' harmony. Zhejiang University’s Associate Professor of Violin at the Department of Public Physical and Art Education, who is also the head of the Wenqin Symphony Orchestra, ZHOU Cong, brought an Eastern-Western fusion with Solo: Jiu Er and Schindler’s List. Ensemble: Glowing Red Morningstar Lilies, blending Shanbei folk music with violin, performed by alumni BAO Yuxin and JIN Yunfan, alongside violinists from the Wenqin Symphony Orchestra Troupe. Another highlight was Solo: Zigeunerweisen which displayed a masterful performance.
Guest violinist, YANG Keyan performed the Solo: Cinema Paradiso, leading the audience through time and space to a nostalgic journey of dreams and memories. ZHOU Cong and YANG Keyan performed the Concerto: J. S. Bach Concerto in D Minor for 2 Violins, offering a profound interpretation of this Baroque masterpiece. For the grand finale, ZHOU Cong, WANG Zhenli, Mike, and YANG Keyan, along with other guest performers, performed Concerto: Vivaldi’s Concerto for 4 Violins in B minor. This collaborative performance brought out the extraordinary charm of this classical masterpiece.
This performance not only brought a high-quality artistic experience, but also served as a bridge connecting classical and modern, East and West, academic and everyday life. It enriched cultural exchange on campus.
