The lecture was moderated by Professor LI Xuping from the Institute of China Studies, Zhejiang University.

Drawing on decades of scholarship in the study of manuscripts and cultural transmission, Professor Galambos explored how Dunhuang, located at the crossroads of Chinese, Indian, Iranian, and Central Asian civilizations, became a hub where languages, religions, and technologies converged and evolved over many centuries. Several related issues were discussed during the Q&A section including the religious connotations behind the Dunhuang Grottoes, the meanings of non-Chinese scripts in manuscripts, the relationship between Chinese writing culture and Tibetan writing culture, and the role of books in cultural preservation.
