On January 30, 2025, a delegation from the University of Waterloo—including Dean Mary Wells of the Faculty of Engineering, Dean Jochen Koenemann of the Faculty of Mathematics, Dean Chris Houser of the Faculty of Science, Director Felix Arndt of the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business, Director Raouf Boutaba of the Cheriton School of Computer Science—visited the International Campus, Zhejiang University. Prof. Yingcai Wu, Executive Vice Dean of Campus and Dean of the ZJU-UIUC Joint Institute (ZJUI), together with Prof. Hongwei Wang, Vice Dean of Campus, welcomed the guests and held in-depth discussions.

Prof. Wu extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of the campus’s educational model, training features and development achievements. Dean Wells introduced the academic strengths and strategic vision of the University of Waterloo and highly praised the quality of students cultivation at the campus. The deans also presented the undergraduate and graduate training models of their respective faculties, exchanging views on college-level cooperation. Both sides agreed that their educational philosophies are highly aligned and expressed a shared commitment to consolidating and deepening their partnership through practical collaboration in talent training, faculty-student mobility and scientific research.




During the visit, the delegation toured various academic institutes, faculty apartments and Weixue College. Prof. Wee-Liat Ong, Associate Dean of ZJUI, Prof. Yuan Yuan, Assistant Dean of the ZJU-UoE Institute (ZJE), and Ms Li Shen, Head of General Affairs of ZJU International Business School (ZIBS), introduced the distinctive features of their respective programs in talent training, innovation, entrepreneurship and technology transfer.




The delegation also engaged in friendly exchanges with Prof. Simon Hu, Head of the Transportation Systems and Environment Laboratory at ZJUI, Prof. Zhi Hong, Head of the Optical Imaging Center at ZJE, and undergraduate representatives from ZJUI. They gained in-depth insights into professional course teaching and practical arrangements, as well as senior design projects and academic competitions. Heads of relevant institutes and offices of the Campus and the College of Computer Science and Technology participated in the meeting.
