Introduction to professional Master of Fine Arts in Broadcasting and Television (MFA) at Zhejiang University:

    Master of Fine Arts in Broadcasting and Television (MFA) at Zhejiang University is a program for domestic and international media students and professionals who strive to achieve unparalleled excellence. Cultivating the most prominent talents in the industry is not only our goal but also our daily practice. We do so not only by proposing a systematical approach for our students to acquire and refine practical skills needed to succeed in their career, but also by valuing professional ethics and share that value with our students and alumni to a strong community for both academia and the industry.

    This international training program (international class) of MFA is carried out in the span of three years, taking advantage of both the renowned College of Media and International Culture as well as our international campus with bilingual courses and lectures. A student is expected to study visual arts theories and to receive professional audio-visual training in the first year of the program. The student would also have the opportunity to be exposed in international culture and receive language training in the first year. In the second year, students would go aboard and complete their curriculum in one of our partnering universities. In the third and final year of the program, students come back to our campus and participate in real industrial projects or even work on their own projects. Towards the end of the program, diplomas are awarded based on both test results and short film creation. Students succeeding in both are to receive double master’s degree from Zhejiang University and the collaborating international institute.

    With years’ efforts, the Institute of Broadcasting and Television at Zhejiang University has seen a great expansion of talents, industrial collaboration and endorsement. Remarkable scholars, researchers and industry practitioners of new media, aesthetics, as well as films and televisions can be found leading researches, lecturing and tutoring as part of the program. New talents from Oxford University, University of Michigan, Duke University, Northwestern University, Oakland University are also introduced to the program as valuable faculty. These assets allow students to explore full English courses or bilingual courses. The core courses of the MFA include Artistic Aesthetics, Script Writing, Frontier in Media Researches, Methodology in Film and Television Researches, Film Production and Creation, and World Film Studies.

    After three years of postgraduate study (two years at Haining campus + one year abroad), MFA graduates are expected to become key personnel and leaders in every aspect of the industry, from broadcasting and television stations to film and television productions, from new media networks to colleges and universities, even in cultural administration department of the government, where they would further their career and quest for their life goals.
