Good news comes that a team of three ZJUI students receives Outstanding Winner INFORMS Award in the 2019 international Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The team consists of three undergraduates majoring in computer engineering, whose names are Lin Hangzheng, Tong Xinhao and Yuan Jinsong.

The Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) is an international mathematical modeling competition held annually in USA and sponsored by Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), the National Security Agency (NSA), and Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). Every year, thousands of international teams compete to produce original mathematical papers in response to modeling problems which aim to solve the real-world problems. Economy, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, safety and other fields could be involved in problems. Teams joining the contest come from all over the world such as the United States, the People's Republic of China, Canada, the United Kingdom, etc. To participate in the contest, each team may consist of three students and they are required to compete all the tasks from modeling, solution and validation to paper writing on the designated problems within 3 days.

The 2019 International Mathematical Contest in Modeling started on January 24th. In this year, six problems were set for the challengers. Lin Hangzheng, Tong Xinhao and Yuan Jinsong made their debut in the contest. They chose problem B (Send in the Drones: Developing an Aerial Disaster Relief Response System) to solve, eventually got the unanimous favor of the judges and won the Outstanding Winner and INFORMS Award honors.

"We benefit a lot from the teaching environment of the international campus, Zhejiang University in which the advantages of east and west are integrated." Said the Lin Hangzheng and his teammates, " We use English to write papers in our daily courses and this promises us a high efficiency of paper writing in contest, so we could save more time and energy for modeling and calculation."

ZJUI attaches great importance to giving full play to the advantages of Sino-foreign cooperatively-run schools and encourages students to participate in the top international academic competitions. In last year's MCM/ICM competition, students such as Chen Yifan, Xu Chao and Jiang Enyi of ZJUI class of 2020 have won Meritorious Winner (8.8% of the prizes) in the competition.
