The aim of the course is to provide the students with a deeper understanding of a variety of biomedical disorders, and the possibilities and limitations of fundamental and translational research environments and tools. Throughout this course they will be taught by basic and translational researchers across the thematic research areas of ZJE (vertical themes) including: ? Infection medicine ? Cancer ? Neuroscience/neuroendocrinology ? Development, stem cells, regeneration & repair ?

The aim of this course is to provide an overall vision of current biomedical research development. The topic varies from infectious diseases, oncology, regenerative medicine, child health and disease, reproductive medicine and diabetes etc. Each topic will be given a lecture and relevant publication (original paper) analysis. The students will participate once a week classes through all academic year. The taught language is English. This course is only available to students enrolled on the integrated 4-year dual PhD programme.

In consultation with their supervisor team the students will develop a proposal for their PhD project and present it in the style of a 3 year project grant application. This course is only available to students enrolled on the Integrated 4 Year Dual award PhD in Integrative Biomedical Sciences.

The Integrative Biomedical Sciences is an one-semester course for students of Master's degree. The students participate in twice-weekly classes and workshops. The aim of the course is to provide an overall vision of current biomedical research. The topic varies from infectious diseases, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, material sciences, etc.

Research Skills Training I for Graduates（ Resaerch Regulations of Animal Center and Ethics ） is an one-short-semester course for students of Master's degree. The students participate in once-weekly lectures,tutorials and practicals. The topics include introduction to laboratory animal science, regulations of Animal Center and ethics on experimental animals etc. We will also teach some basic skills on mouse experiments.

This course is aiming to give Year 1 postgraduates basic training in reference selection, critical thinking and scientific writing. The students will be trained to get an overview on given themes, including hot topics, recent advancement, as well as their own research projects etc., thus lay foundations for the beginners of academic study. Lecture, group discussion and individual presentation will be integrated in this course to facilitate students to be both independent and cooperative.

This course has a total of 32 class hours, 2 credits. The contents of this course include academic reports and students-centered academic activities about “Academic Annual Meeting”, “Biomedical Horizon Poster” and “3 minutes thesis vedio competition”. This course aims to develop students’skills of communication and presentation.
