<p>“Chinese I-IV” are compulsory courses for international undergraduate students, which aims to help them get basic knowledge of the language, practical conversation skills and some cultural knowledge in the language, so that they can adept themselves into the life in China better and get prepared for potential further studies work in China and communications with Chinese speakers. This course is a degree program for freshmen students at ZJU-UoE institute (ZJE) of Zhejiang University. The module is to offer the non-chemistry majored ZJE students an introductory university level content of Chemistry with the focus on biology relevant concepts. The course is meant to be completed within one semester and includes two major components. The first half of the semester covers basic concepts and principles of Chemistry, such as atoms, periodicity, chemical bonds and thermodynamics.

Database and Software Technology 2 aims to provide students with an overview and practice on database and software technologies that are frequently used in the area of biomedical informatics. Students will extend their programming skills acquired in year 1 by learning object-oriented programming and advanced data structures in Java. In addition, students will learn and practice software engineering skills including requirement analysis and architectural design through a course project.

<p>Database and Software Technology 2 aims to provide students with an overview and practice on database and software technologies that are frequently used in the area of biomedical informatics. Students will extend their programming skills acquired in year 1 by learning object-oriented programming and advanced data structures in Java. In addition, students will learn and practice software engineering skills including requirement analysis and architectural design through a course project.

<p>Genomics and Proteomics 2 (GP2) aims to provide students with an overview of the fundamental technological concepts of genomics, functional genomics and proteomics methods using realworld approaches as examples. The course will lay a strong technical foundation on genomics and proteomics, with particular emphasis on experimental design, data handling and data processing. Those skills will be taught with a view how these omics approaches are advancing biomedical research.

Infection 3 (IN3) aims to develop an understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of infectious diseases, the mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions, the role of infectious agents and the host in disease pathogenesis, the role of immune responses and therapeutics in controlling infection, and the epidemiology and evolution of pathogenic microbes. The course will be taught via weekly lectures and tutorial sessions, as well as laboratory practicals.

<p>This is an "English for academic purpose" course. The major learning objective of this course is to teach students the English skills needed to achieve the learning objectives of their biomedical science/engineering courses at the ZJU-UoE/ZJU-UIUC Institutes, and the broader learning objectives of using English in university settings. Integrated Enligsh is specifically aimed at freshman students in the first semester of their undergraduate study.</p>
