In order to continue to improve the management of the Joint Institutes and the quality of their educational programs, the International Campus has recently conducted a periodical self-initiated assessment for Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute (ZJE) and Zhejiang University-University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Institute (ZJUI).
The Campus invited Professor Zhao Yanzhi, Vice President of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, Professor Feng Weizhe, Director of International Affairs, China Agricultural University, Professor Yu Liming, Vice Dean of the Flying College, Beihang University, Professor Zheng Hui, Director of International Affairs, Xiamen Institute of Technology, and Professor Wang Qicai, Associate Professor from College of Philosophy and Law, Shanghai Normal University to serve on the assessment team, with Professor Zhao as the team leader. The assessment team visited the Campus to conduct an on-site evaluation for the two Joint Institutes on November 8. Following the guidelines of the Ministry of Education Evaluation Center, the assessment team gained a thorough understanding of the educational activities at the two Joint Institutes, by listening to reports, reviewing documents, and especially interacting with administrators, students, and lecturers. After the evaluation, they provided a feedback to the Campus and the Joint Institutes.
The assessment team was deeply impressed by the acquisition and integration of high-quality educational resources, faculty strength, talent cultivation, quality assurance, and innovative educational model of the two Joint Institutes. They believed that the two Joint Institutes has met the expectation of Sino-foreign collaboration in education.
The assessment team also provided suggestions for addressing several problems identified through the evaluation, including further expanding and utilizing high-quality educational resources from abroad, aligning educational plans and processes, strengthening quality assurance, enhancing faculty development, strengthening capability for sustainable development, and clarifying the relationships between the Campus and the Joint Institutes.
At the evaluation feedback meeting, Professor He Lianzhen, Vice President of Zhejiang University and Dean of International Campus, expressed her gratitude to the assessment team for their in-depth and detailed work. She also thanked the peers for their constant interest in the development of the International Campus. Professor He asked the two Joint Institutes and relevant Campus departments to further study the problems, propose solutions, improve the quality of education, and ensure the sustainability of educational programs based on the advices offered by the assessment team members.
The self-initiated assessment will help the two Joint Institutes to better follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Education to enhance the quality of talent cultivation, expansion and integration of the faculty, and establishment of a platform for sustainable development.
Deans of the two Joint Institutes, Directors and administrators of the Office of General Administration, Education and Teaching Center, Office of Financial Affairs, and Office of Human Resources also attended the feedback meeting.
