At 7:00 a.m. on October 1, International Campus held the flag-raising ceremony in the south square of to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. More than 400 members of the campus attended the ceremony.
WANG Yufen, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the International Campus, made a speech on behalf of all. She talked about the remarkable achievements China has made in the past 72 years and the great progress China has made in various fields under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. Connected the speech given by XI Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on July 1st, as well as the first class given to students in the class of 2021 freshmen by Professor REN Shaobo, Secretary of Party Committee of ZJU, of "becoming an elite of this era with dreams in the heart", WANG Yufen put forward three expectations to the students.
She expressed her expectations that students should establish a strong desire to be hardworking persons, sharpen their mind and strengthen their ambition. She also encouraged the students to be strong-minded, overcome difficulties, and establish self-confidence. "The Chinese dream is the dream of the country, the dream of the nation and the dream of every Chinese, including the vast number of young people. Only when one integrates his life into the cause of the country and the nation can he achieve great achievements." At the end of her speech, WANG Yufen encouraged the students to cherish their time, work hard and be pioneers of the time, and devote their youth to the realization of the Chinese dream.
XU Yujie, a 2021 undergraduate student majoring in biomedical sciences, gave a speech as a student representative. As a veteran of the Rocket Force of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), he started from his transformation during his two-year military career and described the ambition of Chinese youth who "establish a great ambition and be a brave striver".
At the end of the ceremony, all attendees sang “Ode to the Motherland” and waved the national flag, making the rhythm of the song reverberate on the campus. With the sonorous and powerful voice, the students offered sincere wishes to the motherland, and also expressed their sincere hope for the prosperity of the country and the people.
