International Campus held its 2022 Mid-Year Meeting on September 3-4. The meeting focused on the tasks for constructing the International Collaborative Education Model and the targets set for key administrators’ term of office. It was required to draw the blueprint from a bigger-picture perspective, advance the endeavor with more resolute determination, and accelerate the construction of the International Collaborative Education Model with concrete actions, to celebrate the upcoming 20th CPC National Congress.
Professor HE Lianzhen, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC ZJU Committee, Vice President of ZJU and Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of International Campus, and Professor OUYANG Hongwei, Dean of International Campus, were present at the meeting. They delivered speeches respectively entitled “Forge ahead Resolutely and Contribute to Educational Opening-up with Courage and Commitment”, and “Be Forward-Looking and Courageous in Reform to Build the Educational Model”.
Professor HE Lianzhen elaborated on the spirit of the ZJU Mid-Year Meeting, and expect all iZJUers to profoundly understand the characteristics and tasks of the new development stage, and make contributions distinctive of the International Campus to carrying out the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, building an excellent educational system centering around student growth, and implementing the strategy of invigorating ZJU with talents. Professor HE Lianzhen highlighted the demands to work fruitfully on building the International Collaborative Education Model in the framework of Global ZJU 2.0, create an educational brand, and enhance the reputation and impact of the International Campus. She then stated the expectations from five perspective. Firstly, we need to implement the educational philosophy in detail, and further integrate its education functions to form an educational system that leads the future. Secondly, put cutting-edge academic innovation in a prominent position, and accelerate the in-depth integration of the education chain, innovation chain, talent chain and industry, to build high-level research platforms. Thirdly, take multiple measures to improve the talent recruitment and cultivation mechanism, and build a strategic talent team. Fourthly, while consolidating the existing partnerships, we need to expand the scope and increase the level of international cooperation, further improve the international cooperation layout, and join hands with leading organizations in various areas. Lastly, we also need to further strengthen the construction of internationalized software and hardware, create an open and integrative campus atmosphere, optimize the efficient working mechanism for the coordination between offices and joint institutes, and build a high-quality administration team capable of serving the world-class university initiative.
Professor HE Lianzhen emphasized that, in the face of increasing uncertainties in the international situation, heightened technological barriers, and white-hot competition, International Campus would unswervingly implement China’s education opening-up strategy, closely center on ZJU’s new goals, new directions, and new requirements, uphold Party building, and prepare for adversity, to open a chapter in the development of International Campus.
Professor OUYANG Hongwei pointed out that the development of International Campus should not only conform to the trends of the times and national needs, but empower the development of the region and the university. At present, the ZJU-Haining partnership has entered into the 3.0 Era, which injects new contents into the International Collaborative Education Model. At the next stage, we will be more motivated, and focus on attracting talents worldwide, to vigorously expand the strategic resources required for its development, and accelerate the evolution into the ultimate form of the Education Model.
Professor OUYANG Hongwei emphasized the need to scale up the effects of cultivating “scholar” undergraduates to make the International Campus a talent-cultivating model. The Campus needs to focus on big projects, big platforms, and big achievements, and converge resources to help build a regional talent and innovation highland; to strive to construct a high-level international students cultivation base, and implement the “going global” strategy to create a batch of education bases overseas; to keep exploring the organizational model for high-level internationalized education and innovation systems and mechanisms, to accelerate the creation of a university-industry-city integrated development model.
During the meeting, heads of ZJE, ZJUI, ZIBS, administration offices and international research centers presented their work positioning, requirements and objectives, existing difficulties and challenges, and the relevant tasks and measures. During the open discussion session, the participants actively asked questions, shared their views, and contributed their inputs.
More than 90 participants were present at the meeting, including key administrators CAI Quan, WANG Yufen, QU Lijuan, and WU Jian; representatives of the joint institutes and administration offices, high-level talents, other faculty and staff members.
