On the morning of October 1st, at 7:00 am, more than 350 Chinese and international faculty, staff and students from International Campus, along with primary and secondary school students and some citizens of Haining, gathered at the South Plaza of the campus to hold a National Day flag-raising ceremony, celebrating the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
QU Lijuan, Vice Dean of International Campus, attended and delivered a speech. QU said that ZJU has started a new journey towards the forefront of world-class universities. As a strategic base, International Campus shoulders the mission of opening up education, regional innovation-driven development, and the construction of a first-class university. She encouraged all the iZJUers to be firm in their ideals and beliefs, to aspire to national rejuvenation, to be grateful and strive for progress, to adhere to the spirit of truth-seeking, to promote the development of the country, as well as to promote the building of a global community with a shared future.
Speaking on behalf of the faculty, Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean of ZIBS, ZHOU Wenyu said, “Every generation has its own mission, and the baton of building a better future has now been handed over to our generation.”. He expressed the expectation that iZJUers would always be grateful, not forgetting the original intention of teaching and educating, doing a good job in guiding the growth of students, and making contributions to the construction of a strong education, science and technology talent country.
As the representative of iZJU students, ZHANG Qiyue, a master's graduate student from ZJE, also delivered a speech. She said that she would continue to improve her global competitiveness, combine her personal future with the development of the motherland, explore the unknown and rise to the challenge.

In the future, I will always remember the earnest teachings under the national flag and uphold Zhejiang University's tradition of seeking truth and pursuing innovation. I will be driven by a strong sense of patriotism as I forge ahead.”

It is the first time I participated in an activity like this. It was an amazing experience because as a Chinese born in Costa Rica, I was connecting with another part that represents me. The college organized the activity pretty well and the speeches were inspiring. Even though it was a Chinese Celebration the university welcomed international students to join and learn about Chinese customs. Today’s Flag raising ceremony was an experience we should all join in future no matter if you are a Chinese or international student.
