2024-03-29

On March 28, the first iCareer Job Fair at the International Campus was held, with around 50 employers from fields such as biomedicine, new materials, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, new and renewable energy, scientific research, intelligent manufacturing, finance, and education, offering over thousands of internship and employment positions. The job fair hosted by Zhejiang University's Career Guidance and Services Center and the International Campus, was open to all students and faculty members, with more than 500 Chinese and international students participating.

QU Lijuan and QU Haidong, Vice Dean of the International Campus, visited the job fair to inquire about students' employment situations and to engage in friendly exchanges with employers. QU Lijuan stated that the International Campus has always centered on student development, and organizing this job fair was another step towards bridging the talent demand and supply through strengthening university-enterprise cooperation. This aims to establish a new international platform for internships and practice, thereby supporting students' growth and development. She also expressed gratitude to the companies that have long supported the internships, practice, and employment of students at the International Campus.

The job fair attracted many Fortune 500 companies, top research institutions, and businesses from the Yangtze River Delta region and its surroundings, known to be one of the rapidly growing regions in China due to their geographical advantages. Considering the strengths and characteristics of students at the International Campus, many employers offered international positions, including those in cross-border e-commerce. Employers praised the international competency and professional abilities of the students. HR representatives from Huawei Technologies mentioned that they brought demands for internships in software development, finding that the professional skills and abilities of students from the International Campus matched their needs well, with many international students inquiring about international positions. A recruitment representative from Liangzhu Laboratory said, "We mainly recruit researchers in biomedical fields. Today, we have recommended two students from the International Campus with relevant expertise to contact our lab supervisors." The recruitment manager from Zeekr expressed great satisfaction with the event, noting that the company has plans to expand internationally and that students from the International Campus who have interned in their overseas positions have performed exceedingly well.

Monish, an international student taking Automations and a partner for the startup WAMECO, shared, "We are four students from ZJUI and ZIBS who have established a port waste management company. This year, we plan to recruit 7 or 8 colleagues and interns, mainly in machine learning and media operation."

A student named Fang, an undergraduate majoring in Mechanical Engineering and set to graduate in 2024, attended the job fair in formal attire with printed resumes, hoping to understand the recruitment demands of the automotive industry. This opportunity not only allowed him to engage with potential employers but also broadened his horizons, letting him closely understand companies' demands for talent. Not only recent graduates but also younger students, including freshmen and sophomores, took advantage of the "golden March and silver April" spring recruitment season. Gevorg, a freshman international student from Armenia studying Information Engineering, said, "I want to understand what employment skills international students need to prepare for future internships and work in China." Riccardo Ceravolo, an Italian international master's student in China Studies, expressed, "This is my first time attending a job fair in China. I wish to stay and work in China after graduation, contributing to the friendship between Italy and China."

To facilitate participation from students at other campuses, the International Campus specially provided shuttle services between Hangzhou and Haining. Chandra, an Indonesian international student from the Huajiachi Campus, said, "I am a fifth-year undergraduate student in Clinical Medicine. This is my first time attending a job fair, and I want to explore job opportunities in China to prepare for internships during my master's studies."

The International Campus continues to adhere to the principle of being deeply rooted in China while standing at the forefront of the country's strategy to open up higher education and regional development to the outside world. Since its establishment, the International Campus has trained over 800 outstanding graduates with strong international competencies. To help students understand the job market and plan their careers early, the International Campus continuously invites companies to hold job talks, interviews and negotiation sessions. It also facilitates close exchanges between corporate executives and students, helping both domestic and international students understand employment and industry trends and clarify different career paths.
