On 29 September, the “Haining Sub Forum of the Zhejiang University Orient Forum”, together with the “Qiushi Think Tank” forum, was held on the International Campus. The sub forum had as its theme, “Brave the Winds and Waves，Sweep Ahead with Full Sail”, concentrating on the high-quality development of the private economy and exploring the new trends in China’s economic growth.
Prof. HE Lianzhen, Vice President of ZJU, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee and Dean of the International Campus, and PU Xinda, Member of the Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor of Haining attended the opening ceremony of the forum and delivered speeches.
Prof. HE expressed the view that, with the complex international situation and post COVID-19 environment presenting both challenges and opportunities, a new round of technological and industrial transformation is today booming. How to achieve high-quality development of the private economy is a major issue for our times. She also hoped that, as the forward-looking, strategic cooperation academic exchange platform of Zhejiang University-Haining Municipal Government cooperation, the “Haining Sub Forum” will innovate the government-industry-university-research model and contribute to local development.
PU Xinda said that the private economy in Haining had, for over 40 years, been growing in size and in strength, and it is now a significant part of the high-quality development of the national economy. Since the beginning of the Zhejiang University-Haining Municipal Government comprehensive cooperation agreement, there have been great cooperation achievements in many fields, including scientific research, talent cultivation, and medicine. He hoped that, in the context of the Yangtze River Delta integration project, this cooperation would result in a win-win situation for all and enable Haining to realize its modernization strategy.
In the forum, Prof. LIU Yingqiu, researcher of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Director of the Center for Private Economy Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CPES), Prof. SHI Jinchuan, Senior Prof. of Liberal Arts in Zhejiang University and Director of Private Economy Studies, Zhejiang University, and Prof. YANG Zhigang, the former Dean of the School of Economics, Fudan University, gave thematic speeches. After that, the speakers had round-table dialogues with the local entrepreneurs on the topic of “internal and external double circulation and high-quality development of private economy”. Representatives of the relevant departments and entrepreneurs from Haining and representatives from Zhejiang University attended the forum.
The “Zhejiang University Orient Forum” was established in 2003. With the aim of being “open, leading edge, interdisciplinary, and comprehensive”, the forum has invited many famous scholars from home and abroad to come to spread knowledge, interpret ideas and proffer enlightenment. Up until now, the forum has held more than 300 academic sub forums. The first “Haining Sub Forum of the Zhejiang University Orient Forum” was held in 2019.
